Information and instructions for Ped-Lung list

This list is open to all professionals with an interest in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. It is dedicated to improving the pulmonary health of children worldwide. The list was started as an initiative of the Respiratory Section of the Canadian Paediatric Society and the Paediatric Section of the Canadian Thoracic Society. However, opinions expressed on the list are solely those of the individual contributors.

Ped-Lung is not a marketing forum. However topics can include anything relevant to Pediatric Pulmonology, including clinical, educational, research and administrative issues. The list is monitored but as with all Internet mail lists confidential and sensitive information, particularly that which identifies patients or individuals should be avoided.

SENDING MESSAGES TO THE LIST

Once you have subscribed to the list, in order to send a message that you want to go out to the whole list, please make sure that the list address:

ped-lung@lists.ped-lung.org

is in the "To:" field, or "CC:" field, so that the message will be sent to the list and distributed to everyone.

PLEASE adhere to the following:

When replying to messages received from the Ped-Lung list, which you want to go out the whole list, please make sure that the list address (ped-lung@lists.ped-lung.org) is in the "To:" field, or "CC:" field, so that the message will be sent to the list and distributed to everyone. However, when replying to individuals, please take care to make sure that the list address is not included!

When sending messages to the Ped-Lung list:

do not quote the entire email to which you are responding in the body of your post.

do not request confirmation of receipt

When sending private messages:

Make sure you do not send the message to the whole list - check the "To:" field

When you go away: change your subscription options for the Ped-Lung list if you leave an automatic reply on your email; Click here to change your subscription options.

DIGEST FORMAT

There is a "digest" format which provides a single daily email message composed of the messages from the previous 24 hours.

LEAVING THE LIST

To remove your address from the list (unsubscribe): Click here to remove your address from the list.

BOUNCES

The mailman list server that Ped-Lung runs on has a system that counts up the number of times messages are "bounced" back from a server within 21 days, generally due to the member's server refusing the email from the list and sending it back to Ped-Lung. The "bounce" process provides a method of removing subscribers who have changed their email address and failed to cancel their membership to ped-lung. If this bounce threshold is exceeded, the member's name is suspended and they are sent a notice informing them of the suspension that includes a link to reinstate their membership.

Generally, the memberships will be reinstated by the administrator when they occur. However, the quickest way to reinstate the membership is to respond to the email notice notifying you of the suspension.

The email notice you receive from the list looks something like this:

To: your_email_address
From: ped-lung-request@lists.ped-lung.org
Subject: confirm xxxxxx(a long digit string)

Your membership in the mailing list ped-lung has been disabled due to excessive bounces The last bounce received from you was dated XX-xxx-XX. You will not get any more messages from this list until you re-enable your membership. You will receive 3 more reminders like this before your membership in the list is deleted.

To re-enable your membership, you can simply respond to this message (leaving the Subject: line intact), or visit the confirmation page at .... (email continues with more information).
